Further Information and How to Apply

Your application to the Mercers’ Company is an application to all the charities that are under its trusteeship, including The Mercers’ Charitable Foundation, The Charity of Sir Richard Whittington and The Earl of Northampton’s Charity. Do not make separate applications.

3 year rule

We can consider only one application from your organisation in three years. This applies whether or not you were awarded a grant. If you received an instalment grant, this rule applies from the date of the last payment.

Capital projects

This is not a high priority at the present time and is restricted to appeals that are within the last 20 % of their target. No capital projects are funded under the Education programme.

Size of grants

The Recent Grants listing will give you a clear indication of the current range of our grants.

Time scale of applications

Your application will be acknowledged within 10 working days. The approval process may take up to a further four weeks from the date of the meeting at which your application is considered.

General exclusions

  • Animal welfare charities;

  • Endowment appeals;

  • Loans or business finance;

  • Sponsorship or marketing appeals and fundraising events;

  • Campaigning work and projects that are primarily political;

  • Activities that are the responsibility of the local, health or education authority or other similar body;
