Thomas Telford School

Thomas Telford School, a City Technology College situated in Telford in the West
Midlands opened in 1991.
The school has some 1200 pupils on roll, boys and girls, of which 370 are in
the sixth form.
The School has an enviable record of success in public examinations and is nationally
known for its developments in the field of Information and Communications Technology
(ICT) in schools.
The proceeds of the sale of ICT courses to other schools and colleges has enabled
the School to offer sponsorship to fifty schools in the West Midlands towards
the £50,000 they need to raise to achieve Specialist School status. The School
has also become a major sponsor in the development of three Academies in the West
Midlands, Walsall Academy, Sandwell Academy and Madeley Academy.
At the request of the local Education Authority, the School entered into a Federation
Agreement with the Governors of Madeley Court School in Telford which had been
facing serious difficulties. Thomas Telford School provided a new Head Master,
some new Governors and made available to the school its facilities and curricular
expertise. Results and enrolments have improved markedly and as a consequence
Madeley Court School has now achieved Academy status with Thomas Telford School
as lead sponsor.
