The work of the Company is directed on behalf of the Master and the Court of Assistants by the Clerk and his or her staff. All members of the Company are invited to a General Court which is held four times a year. Members contribute to the working life of the Company, and the running of its charities, by joining one of the committees that report to the Court of Assistants or the governing bodies of the schools with which the Company is associated.

Membership
Membership of the Company is over 300. Admission to the Freedom is normally by patrimony although it is bestowed from time to time by redemption.
 
The Company has admitted women members since 2002 and currently has 98 women members. Admission of freemen to the livery is at the discretion of the Court of Assistants.
