Working on School/College Improvement
The Mercers’ Company Education Practice is involved in advisory and support work with its associated schools and colleges, through the work of its own team and with partners.

The schools with which the Mercers’ Company is associated span the maintained and independent sectors of education. Some are long-established, and others very new. They all demonstrate aspects of leading practice in their respective sectors, and promoting cross-fertilization of ideas between the maintained and independent sectors is a feature of the Mercers’ approach.

They include: St. Paul’s School, St. Paul’s Girls’ School, Dauntsey’s and Abingdon independent schools; Thomas Telford School, Walsall Academy, and Sandwell Academy; Collyer’s and Peter Symonds’ 6th form colleges; and The Royal Ballet School. In the Primary age range we have links with four London Preparatory and Primary schools.

The Mercers’ Company is also the educational adviser to the British School in Colombo, and through its London Schools Network funds and evaluates educational improvement projects with 15 Inner London schools. It has also undertaken short research projects on behalf of educational charities such as NCH and the March Foundation.

Mercers’ Consulting
The Mercers’ Company Education Practice is now able to offer advisory services to schools and colleges outside the Mercers’ group.

Led by Head of Education Michael Marchant, supported by attached consultant Andrew Marshall, and with access to the combined expertise of the network of present and past partners in the Mercers’ schools, you could benefit from our input aimed at improving the educational opportunities of your pupils and the performance of your school or college.

Michael and Andrew each have significant experience of Headship and other educational leadership roles, are experienced in advisory and consulting work, and are active in the fields of school and college improvement.

Why Mercers’ Consulting is different
Mercers’ Consulting can offer not only the services of experienced former Heads and Principals, but can give access to those actively working in the front line of some of the country’s most successful and innovative schools and colleges in the country. Thus we aim to provide up to date and proven advice and support, and are able to draw on the best of the maintained and independent sectors, and provide clients with realistic and value for money support. Bringing expertise and the best practice from across the maintained and independent sectors, we offer advisory services for:

  • Advising heads and governors of schools, academies and colleges on strategy and institutional leadership
  • Independent School advisory contracts
  • Sourcing short-term, specific expertise from highly effective practicing teachers
  • Appointment of senior staff
  • Mentoring or coaching for heads/principals
  • Small-scale research projects and feasibility studies

Please contact Michael Marchant on 020 7776 7208 or at michaelm@mercers.co.uk  for further details - we look forward to working with you.
