Guinness Open Gate Brewery London opens in our Covent Garden estate

We are pleased to welcome Guinness to our Covent Garden estate with the opening of Guinness Open Gate Brewery London at Old Brewers Yard, The Yards.

Delivered in partnership with Diageo, the new experience represents a significant long-term investment into our estate and an important addition to London’s West End. Around half a million visitors are expected each year, with the brewery creating more than 250 new jobs and further strengthening Covent Garden’s position as a global visitor destination.

Old Brewers Yard provides a fitting home for Guinness’ first permanent London experience. Beer was first brewed on the site in 1722 and, three centuries later, a new chapter in this industry’s story begins. His Majesty the King visited the brewery last week and tasted a selection of craft beers before pouring a ‘perfect pint’ and meeting graduates of Diageo’s award-winning Learning for Life programme, which has helped more than 8,000 adults across the UK start careers.

The opening reflects more than 20 years of proactive asset management by the Mercers’ Company, focused on long-term stewardship, placemaking and social value. Our investment across The Yards has opened up streets and courtyards, supported a diverse mix of retail, culture and experiences to create a destination that brings people and communities together.

Investment in our estate, including the Guinness Open Gate Brewery London, supports our philanthropy, where over £10 million each year is awarded to charitable organisations relieving disadvantage in London, Norfolk, Lincolnshire and the North East of England.
