Causeway Education’s evaluation of Phase 1 of the Transitions from Secondary Education Special Initiative (2019 - 2026), alongside the Year 6 evaluation report (2024 - 2025), brings together six years of learning from work supporting young people across London to expand their knowledge and navigate pathways beyond school.
Produced by our learning partner, Causeway Education, the Phase 1 report draws on the experience of 15 funded organisations, setting out the initiative’s overall impact on young people alongside key successes, shared challenges and recommendations for practitioners and policymakers.
Alongside this, the Year 6 report captures the final year of delivery across seven organisations (Cohort 3), highlighting continued improvements in young people’s confidence, soft skills and outlook, alongside practical recommendations to strengthen school engagement, build lasting networks and improve how programmes learn from young people’s experiences.
Together, both reports set out clear priorities for future work, including:
- earlier and sustained support for transitions
- strong relationships with trusted adults
- closer collaboration between schools, employers and youth organisations; and
- the need for longer-term, flexible funding to support lasting impact.
As trustee of the Charity of Sir Richard Whittington and the Mercers’ Charitable Foundation, our Transitions Special initiative forms part of our commitment to supporting young people’s futures.
