Rocket Science appointed as Learning Partner for YP&E’s Transitions Programme

We are pleased to appoint Rocket Science as the Learning Partner for Phase 2 of the Transitions from Secondary Education Special Initiative (2024-2029), part of our wider Younger People & Education programme. 

The special initiative funds organisations working with young people in London who experience disadvantage to support them to successfully progress from secondary education. 

Rocket Science to support Phase 2 cohorts 

Working in collaboration with the Company and funded organisations, Rocket Science will support learning and improvement of practice across both Phase 2 cohorts.  The overarching aim of the Learning Partner’s role is to facilitate learning nd strengthen practice for funded organisations, the young people they support and the wider sector. 

Rocket Science will act as a critical friend, offering evaluation and learning support and drawing out insights from individual projects and across cohorts. Learning will be contextualised against current research and evidence, for grantees and the wider sector. 

With more than 25 years’ experience across education, employment and social mobility, Rocket Science brings strong knowledge of London’s sector, communities and policy context. Their approach emphasises practical outputs that have clear value for funded organisations, including actionable insights and shared tools. engagement and young people’s voices are embedded throughout their approach, supporting organisations to reflect on and strengthen participation across programme design, delivery, learning and impact.

Funding for Phase 2 Transitions is through the Mercers’ Charitable Foundation, of which the Mercers’ Company is Trustee. 

Phase 1 concluded

Phase 1 of the Transitions from Secondary Education Special Initiative has now concluded (2019-2025). Learning from Phase 1 continues to emerge, building on work led by The Centre for Education and Youth (CfEY) and, subsequently, Causeway Education.  Recent findings highlight the value of targeted interventions in increasing young people’s confidence, awareness of career pathways and connections to the world of work.
